“Great work. Jeff changed my exhaust fan, he came prepared and covered everything to contain the mess. I recommend Bicking!”

What does a home charger install involve?

A dedicated 240 volt circuit from the panel to where the car parks, a breaker sized to the charger, and enough spare capacity in the service to carry it. That last part is what we check before we quote, because the most common charger problem is not the charger. It is a 100 amp house that was already near its limit.

What is included

What the job actually involves

  • Level 2 chargers, hardwired or on a 240 volt receptacle
  • Dedicated circuit and breaker sized to the charger
  • Load calculation before the quote
  • Sub-panel or service upgrade where the service is at its limit
  • Garage, carport and driveway installs
  • Permitted and inspected

The part that matters

Capacity first, then the charger

Sometimes the answer is a smaller charger setting, sometimes a sub-panel, sometimes a service upgrade. You will know which before we start.

Where it goes matters more than which one

Think about where the car parks and which side the charge port is on. A charger on the wrong wall means a cable across the floor every night. Outdoor mounting is fine with the right enclosure. Hardwiring is cleaner and required above certain amperages; a receptacle makes sense if you expect to take the charger with you.

If the panel is full

A full panel does not always mean a service upgrade. A sub-panel adds breaker space if the service has capacity. If it does not, 200 amps is the right long-term answer and covers the next thing you add too.

Questions

EV Charger Installation questions

Can my panel handle a charger?
Often yes, sometimes not without changes. We run a load calculation first and tell you which.
Will you install a charger I bought?
Yes. Bring the charger and its install sheet. We can also source one.
Hardwired or plug-in?
Hardwired for a permanent install. Plug-in if you want to take it with you.
Permit?
Yes. It is a new dedicated circuit and gets permitted and inspected like any other.
