What does custom design add to a new build?

Every outlet behind a couch and every switch on the wrong side of a door was decided at the plan stage by somebody who did not ask. We sit down with the plans and with you, walk every room, and lay out switches, outlets, lighting and the big loads for how you will actually live there. It is the work we take the most pride in.

The part that matters

Design pays for itself

A layout session before rough-in costs an afternoon. It is the reason our new-build customers do not spend ten years reaching for extension cords.

Temporary service first

A temporary pole with a meter, panel and weatherproof receptacles, set early and energized by the utility, so the trades are not running off a generator for six months. We plan the permanent meter location at the same time so the utility drop only moves once.

Size for the house you will have

A new build in 2026 will see an EV charger, probably a heat pump, maybe a generator or a hot tub. All of that is easy to allow for at the panel now and costly to retrofit. We leave the breaker space and the conduit paths.

Questions

New Build & Custom Design questions

When should you get involved?
Before framing, ideally at the plan stage. That is when the service size, meter location and layout are still easy to change.
Do I need an architect for the electrical layout?
No. We do it with you from the builder's plans. If your designer has a lighting plan, we work from it.
Do you set temporary power?
Yes. Pole, meter and panel, inspected and energized by the utility.
Do you work with builders?
Yes, and with homeowners acting as their own general contractor.
Do you wire home theaters?
Yes. Dedicated circuits for the equipment, outlets where the screen and the rack actually go, and lighting on dimmers so the room works as a theater. Best planned before the drywall, but we retrofit them too.
Do you wire sunrooms and additions?
Yes. A sunroom is a new circuit set, often a sub-panel, and a lot of lighting and outlet decisions. We do a lot of them, especially around New Albany.
Do you do commercial work?
Yes. Residential and commercial, including church and office renovations.
